A Simple Guide To Roulette, and Which Version To Play

The game of roulette is one of the most popular table games known to be featured in casinos. For a first time player, it’s not so difficult to catch on, however, there’s a lot of information you can take in regarding this thrilling lottery-like casino game. For starters, you need to know how to bet, where to bet and what your chances are for winning each particular bet. It’s also good to know the odds and payouts for each of your wagers. Some people still just play it randomly for fun, however like this, you have a much smaller chance of coming out above, while you also have the chance to get scammed without realizing it!

Let’s start off with the basics. The most common type of Roulette consists of a wheel with 37 numbers laid around the circumference, starting from zero counting up all the way to 36. The numbers are not placed in any particular order, but they are generally placed in the same pattern. This is how the anti-clockwise sequence of numbers looks like on the most common European roulette wheel ;0,  26 , 3 , 35 , 12 , 28 , 7 , 29 , 18 , 22 , 9 , 31 , 14 , 20 , 1 , 33 , 16 , 24 , 5 , 10 , 23 , 8 , 30 , 11 , 36 , 13 , 27 , 6 , 34 , 17 , 25 , 2 , 21 , 4 , 19 , 15 , and 32. These numbers are also distributed onto a table as follows:

Nowadays the game of roulette is so popular that it is a must-be-featured game for every land based casino and online casino in the world. Here’s what the roulette table would look like in person:

Let’s have a look at inside bets

Here you can place your chips on top of your desired number or numbers and have the chance to win big. If you guess the right number, congratulations, you just won 35 times your initial bet on that particular number.

If you’re not feeling lucky enough to guess a particular number, there is also an option to bet on combinations of these numbers. By placing your chips on the grid lines between two numbers, you can bet on both numbers on each side of the gridline, for example right between 24 and 23, or between 2 and 5, here, if your bet wins, you will get half the payout you would have gotten with a single number bet. This is due to you having doubled your chances of hitting the right number.

If you want to increase your chances a little bit more, you can even bet on a corner within the grid lines, like for example right between 31, 32, 34, and 35. Here, your chances are doubled once again, and if you win, you will get a payout of 8 to 1, or 8 times your initial bet.

You can even place your chips at the bottom underneath a particular column, where you can bet on a total of 3 numbers, like 1, 2, and 3, giving you a payout of 11 to 1. Or you can even place your chips between two columns, betting on a combination of 6 numbers in total, with a 5 to 1 payout if you win..

So if there’s inside bets, are there outside bets?

Yep, amongst the outside of the table, you will be able to see a few more boxes which give you even easier options to bet on. Don’t forget though, the higher the odds of you hitting something on these boxes, the lower the payout will be.

Starting off, there’s a total of six boxes which give you the chance to win a 2 to 1 payout; which are combinations of a total of 12 numbers. This can be achieved by betting on any of the three boxes on top of eachother at the far right, where it says 2 to 1. This bet will mark a whole row for you. You also have the chance to bet on 12 numbers in the shape of 4 columns of 3; (1 to 12 / 13 to 24 / 25 to 36).

Finally, one can come across one final row at the very bottom of the table. Here, you have six options to bet on. Each of these bets give you an (almost) 50/50 chance of winning, and this means your payouts when winning these bets are always 1 to 1, meaning you get back what you wagered and the same amount in profit. The options within this row are red or black, even or odd, or high or low (1 to 18 / 19-36) What makes this bet an “almost 50/50” bet, is the green zero, which gives the casino its house edge over the player.

European or American Roulette?

You might have heard of different types of this game. This is true, there’s European and American roulette, along with a few others which aren’t as common. The main difference between these two is an extra number. In American Roulette you get the double 0 (00) in green. This lessens your chances of winning but keeps you playing for the same payouts, so if you ever come against the option between the two, always go for European!
